Call Time, AKA "Dialing for Dollars"
5-6 hours a day. That's how much time I'm spending, calling supporters and donors asking for financial support for my campaign. FAQs further down in the post if you want to skip ahead.
This is what is expected of me from groups like Emily's List, the DCCC, and 314 Action if I want their support. This is what they want me to do before they send donors, media, and help my way. Their expectation is for me to get as close to $100,000 for the first filing deadline as possible.
The first filing deadline ends on June 30, just 18 days away.
You can help me out. I have 13,000 followers on social media. If just 1000 can find $100 in their budget, I'll be on my way for this quarter.
$100 invested in sending John Carter home. $100 spent to try to make this country a better place after the destruction of the last few years. $100 to send a message that we will be fighting back.
For the amount of money you spend on a family movie night, or a month of Starbucks, or a nice dinner out, you can invest in the work I am doing to put a halt to the monstrosities going on in our country right now. $100, more if you can.
Q: Where can I donate?
Q: Why are you always asking for money?
A: Because I know what I am fighting for. I won't rest until the people who are hurting my friends, my patients, my constituents, and my family, are gone from positions of power.
Q: Why so much money?
A: In our current system, it costs a fortune to run a campaign. In John Carter's first quarter, he raised more than $300,000. We have to put our money where our mouths are to get him out of office.
Q: What do you do with the money?
A: The largest amount is spent on communications, reaching out to the people who do not come to meetings and don't pay much attention to politics. I need to capture their attention and imagination, and show them there is a better way to live. It costs a lot of money to do that. Another chunk is spent on my team. They are working extremely hard, and they deserve to get paid for the excellent work they are doing.
Q: Aren't you opposed to money in politics?
A: I hate money in politics. But until I win and am able to change the system, I have to play by the rules in front of me.
Q: Shouldn't you be out talking to voters instead?
A: Yes, I'd prefer that. But I'm dependent on you to make that happen.
Q: I thought you were different. Why are you doing this?
A: I am different, the system is not. I am doing this because I intend to do EVERYTHING I CAN to stop this administration from harming more people. If that means I spend huge amounts of time on the phone asking for help, I will do it. I will do everything in my power, until I can't do it anymore, to make sure we fix this mess.
